We are excited to share a sneak-peak of our SBI2 2026 Conference Program, featuring keynote speakers Dr Emma Lundberg and Dr Derek Lowe, a new Colloquium, and the return of the Cytodata Society Hackathon!
🔹 Keynote Speaker: Dr. Emma Lundberg
Dr. Emma Lundberg is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering and Pathology at Stanford University and serves at the Director of the Cell Atlas of the Human Protein Atlas initiative in Sweden, where she is also Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. At the intersection of bioimaging, proteomics, and artificial intelligence, her research aims to define the spatiotemporal organization of the human proteome at both cellular and subcellular level. Dr. Lundberg aims to develop integrated models of human cells to elucidate how variations in protein localization patterns influence cellular function, ultimately enabling the simulation of cell behavior and a systems-level understanding of how biological information is spatially encoded. The Lundberg Lab is responsible for creating the Subcellular Atlas of the Human Protein Atlas database (https://www.proteinatlas.org/). Dr. Lundberg is dedicated to building virtual cell models to simulate cell behavior, and is passionate about engaging the public in her work through citizen science games and computational challenges.
🔹 Keynote Speaker: Dr. Derek Lowe
Dr. Lowe is the Director of Chemical Biology Therapeutics at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). He is a prominent American medicinal chemist, chemical biologist, author, and speaker. He is best known within the scientific community as the creator and author of “In the Pipeline,” the oldest and most widely read continuously running blog dedicated to pharma drug discovery and preclinical chemistry. With over 30 years of hands-on experience as a medicinal chemistry lab head and project leader, Lowe has worked inside major pharmaceutical companies on preclinical drug discovery across a massive range of therapeutic areas—including oncology, metabolic diseases, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia, and anti-infectives. He launched “In the Pipeline” in 2002, making him one of the very first scientists to blog directly from inside the pharmaceutical industry. Now hosted by Science.org, the blog is famous for breaking down complex medicinal chemistry, discussing clinical trial data, analyzing the business side of biotech, and critiquing scientific publishing in a characteristically witty, down-to-earth tone.
🔹 New Colloquium! AI Today: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
A guided discussion on the benefits and pitfalls of Pattern Recognition, Machine Learning, and Large Language Models in Imaging Assays
🔹 Cytodata Society Hackathon
This year, as part of SBI2 in Boston, the Cytodata Society will be running a two-day hackathon (November 1st to November 2nd) focusing on the application of single-cell modeling tools to recently released morphological and transcriptional data sets. Space will be limited to the first 50 people, so please register early!

Society members receive a discount on registration. If you are not a current member you can sign up using the membership page, and you will immediately be eligible the discounted rate. Membership also confers ongoing access to recordings of conference presentations and educational sessions.
