John Moffat

Having trained as a Biochemist and Molecular Biologist at the University of Otago in New Zealand, Wash U St Louis and UC Santa Cruz, I started developing assays for kinase inhibitors at Sugen. At Genentech I developed my interest in High-Content assays as a way of exposing the dirty truth of small molecule inhibitor promiscuity and actual mechanisms of action. I lead a group that supports small molecule discovery programs from lead-finding through to candidate nomination, and develops and applies high-dimensional phenotypic assays and computational methods, with the goals of validating targets and filtering the good from the bad and ugly in chemical space.
